The Best Arsenal XI?
Its a clear fact that the 2013/14 Arsenal team is undoubtedly the best that Arsene Wenger has fielded since the 2003/04 season of the invincibles. With the likes of Cazorla, Wilshere and Özil controlling the midfield, the strong presence of Giroud upfront and the Steve Bould effect in defence, its arguably the beat team in the league. In this article i will pick my starting 11 that i would pick, if i were manager.
We start with the Polish International, Wojciech Szczęsny who at 23 is arguably one of the best keepers in the premier league at the moment. His style of play is risky and acrobatic but you get a sense of security at the same time with his dominating presence. He is by far Arsenals number one.
The strongest back four for me would have to be; Sagna, Koscielny, Mertesacker and Gibbs. The physical presence of Mert and Kos in the middle makes Szczęsnys job a lot easier. Together, I believe that they are in the top 3 of defencive duos in the Prem. The wide men of Sanga and Gibbs who like to head forwards when on the attack are two of four players that are fighting for their place. I would say that the CBs are safe with their positions but the position of RB and LB are up for grabs. Sagna as stated before likes to get up the pitch and put in a cross, and in the odd instance a shot. It is because of his ability to cross and pick out the pass that i would rank him above of Jenkinson who still needs to work in this area. On the other side, Gibbs for me is first choice through his help in midfield, pace and ability to read the wingers. Monreal is around the same ability but I would say that Gibbs nudges just in front of him.
When it comes to Arsenal, the midfield is the main talking point. There are many great players that Wenger can field but only 4 can be picked in my opinion. The first is Rosicky who is a great central midfielder. He picks out the pass and continues running for the 90 minutes. Hes a great box to box player and he chips in with goals now and again. The other central midfielder I would pick is Jack Wilshere who again, is a box to box midfielder. His ability to make runs and pass makes him one of the frequent choices for Wenger. I would rate him as one of England's top midfielders although he still needs to improve to be considered at the level of Gerrard or Lampard. The two wide men than I select are Ramsey and Cazorla. Ramsey has come on leaps and bound this season and is now one of Arsenals top players. His ability to weave through players and pass the ball around the pitch is fantastic and he also has the ability to bang in goals which is never a bad thing. On the other side, Cazorla is also one of Arsenals top players. He has everything, the ability to track back, passing, tackling, running with the ball and his ability to shoot a ball with not one but both feet. This ability is why he is easily in my Arsenal XI.
In front of the midfield there is only only one player that can play here and that's Mesut Özil. The German who moved from Real Madrid is a world class player and he has everything going for him. His sublime first touch and excellent passing, Özil is in my opinion Arsenals key player and worth every penny of his sizable fee.
Up top is easily the big Frenchman,Giroud. Since coming to Arsenal, he has improved his game and is now a highly rated striker in my opinion. He has scored some important goals for the Gunners and this is why i have picked him in my Arsenal XI.
