Puma Icana FG Review

Puma Icana FG Review

I've had 2 Matches and 2 Training sessions raking up around 3 and a half hours and the upper has really softened up and it can flex more with the movement of your foot. The upper doesn't feel like it would break or frey like I first thought it would and I now feel like the blend of two different materials (The synthetic leather and the Fabric Material) work really well and help to keep my foot in place when in the boot and running.  The boots feel really durable and as if they would be good to go for a full season or two. The fold over tongue is something that I think should be brought back on some of Pumas shoes, or at least on the Puma King. The tongue, though it is short, is effective at keeping the laces under it and out of the way and also helps the tongue stay in place. Inside the boot, the tongue is attached to the base of the boot (a bit like flywire would be) but is attached to the tongue rather than the lace holes and is made of a fabric.
The boot is also surprisingly comfy and is a good fit when on. I would say the boot fits true to size (I went for a 7 and 1/2) and the fit and length is spot on. The insole is one that is a good thickness made out of foam and can be removed after pulling it a little as there is a bit of glue on the bottom. The boot has a dimpled synthetic heel liner which is really comfy when running and when on feet in general. The lacing system is one that is done without any lace holes on the boot. Instead there are loops stitched on the inside walls of the boot and the laces are tied up this way. The lace loops are also connected to the bottom of the boot (again, like flywire) so allow the boot to mould to your foot when you lace up the boot.
The soleplate and stud pattern is also very good. The stud pattern is similar to the one that the old Puma King Finale FG was but bigger studs and more blade like, but the layout being the same. There is no stud pressure when the boot are on and the stud pattern performs really well, even when on really muddy surfaces (I had a game which was muddy puddles and the boot performed well as a whole and I didn't slip once).  The soleplate as well as glue, is also held on with 3 rivets (2 in the front and 1 in the back). The two-tone of the soleplate also make for a good look and the minimal detailing on the soleplate means that it is easy to clean after a game.
The looks of this boot is also something I really like. The colours of Blue, Grey, White and Gold really complement each other well. The split design of the white and blue/grey works well and the fold over tongue also looks good. I also like the way the fabric material looks with the pinstripe of grey and blue. The gold at the toe also adds to the overall design of the boot and the gold formstripe stands out on the dark base.

The only thing that could let this boot down is having to clean it. If you like your boots to be clean and look new then this boot might not be for you. It takes around 5 minutes to clean this boot, with a small nail brush and some hot water and is very easy. If you didn't look after them and left them to sit in mud then the boot might go 'crusty' and hard, therefore not performing or feeling as it should.
The boots can be found on eBay or here : http://www.lovellsoccer.co.uk/search/icana
Overall I would say that at the moment it is one of my favourites and is easily the first thing I put in my bag for match day.
