Liverpool 1 - 1 Everton
Everton's Centre-Back was the unlikely hero with a strike any world class striker would be proud of, as his late goal rescued a point for the mid-table side.
The game was one which was looking to end a comfortable 1-0 victory for Liverpool as the team pressing wasn't there from Everton but the lapse in concentration from the back allowed Jagielka space to volley his team back into the match.
Liverpool's goal came from none other than Steven Gerrard, with is freekick giving him a 10th goal against Everton in all Merseyside Derbys he's played. A blatant foul by Baines on Balotelli allowed Gerrard this opportunity which he kindly accepted with the inch perfect freekick.
There were some decisions from Martin Atkinson which raised a few eyebrows, including a penalty shout for each side. 5 minutes into the game, Romelu Lukaku was brought down clumsily by Moreno who was lucky to get away with it as the replays showed Moreno pulling Lukaku back.
Down the other end Liverpool were denied a penalty as a blatant handball from Gareth Barry was ignored by Atkinson who deemed Barry to be protecting his face, although his arm was well above his head, something the Liverpool players made very clear to the ref. Barry was lucky not to get sent off a few times today with a couple of challenges which went unpunished but have seen cards in the past.
Throughout the game it was obvious that both sides were missing star players with Everton lacking the spark in midfield they get from Barkley who is still out with an injury. Daniel Sturridge, also out injured, was missed with his runs around the back of defense gone, Liverpool looked for Mario Balotelli to provide the goals by himself today but only managed to as close as the bar with most of his chances coming from long-range shots from outside the box.
The game ended 1-1 with Everton surely the happier team considering the lack luster performance from them. So a good display from Liverpool was only overshadowed by a wonder-strike from their rivals.
