#RainbowLaces
The Paddy Power and Stonewall Rainbow Laces Campaign was back this past week and was the best one yet in terms of player uptake. The campaign is set out to tackle homophobia in football and to show support for gay footballers and fans.
Barton lacing up in last years campaign |
Paddy Power and Stonewall sent laces to every professional footballer in the country and asked them to wear them in their matches and a lot of professionals did, including many players from Arsenal and Manchester City. Arsenal were the standout supporters of the campaign with their TV advert for the cause including stars; Arteta, Giroud, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla and Walcott.
The laces were also available to order from the Stonewall website or in Paddy Power shops and I was able to grab a pair for myself as personally I feel the campaign is one worth supporting. Fans were able to use the laces themselves in Sunday league games and take to social media to spread awareness using the hashtag #RainbowLaces.
The laces themselves are fairly thick but feel strong and good quality. One thing I wasn't expecting was that the laces are fairly long and so the knot is fairly large and hangs down a lot, although double knotting quickly fixes this problem. Bright is one word you could use for these laces. In the photos you can see just how bright they are, a polar opposite to the blacked out boots.
You can get behind the campaign and support Stonewall by texting 'STONEWALL' to 70300 to donate £3 or you can also share the campaign by using the hashtag #RainbowLaces.
