Guiseley AFC 2 - 0 Lowestoft Town | Nethermoor Park

A 78th minute red card for Lowestoft Captain Sam Gaughran turned around a game which saw no clear-cut chances for either side as Guiseley battled it out for their first win in four games.

The standout moment of the match happened late into the second half when Guiseley’s Adam Boyes was bundled down on the edge of the box by last-man Gaughran, a red card shortly followed.

The home side took advantage of this opportunity given to them and Wayne Brooksby’s free kick took a deflection off of Lowestoft’s wall which miss footed the keeper, allowing the ball to bounce in.

A second goal in as many minutes came from ex-Norwich winger Oli Johnson as he put the Lions further ahead. His 30 yard low drive sailed past keeper Ashlee Jones and into the back of the net. Manager Mark Bower said it was a: “great goal” and that he “can’t ask for too much more.”

He said that his side: “certainly had the chances to win more comfortably.” But it was Jones who kept the travelling side in the game for more than an hour, with a number of acrobatic saves denying Guiseley’s attackers.

Both teams where lucky not to lose men late on in the first half when a scrap between Guiseley’s Jake Lawlor and Danny Boshell and Lowestoft’s Sam Gaughran saw all three men receive yellow cards.  Bower didn't seem to mind though as he was “glad the lads stuck up for each other.”

An overall positive performance for Guiseley as they end their four game drought without a win and Oli Johnson picking up the man of the match award.
