Taking care of your football boots will help you out in the long run. Putting the time in looking after them will mean they will last longer and be in better condition for longer.
Here is my guide to looking after your football boots to make sure these two things happen.
Synthetic Football Boots
Synthetic boots are the easier of the two to clean. With most synthetic uppers being one piece, it's usually a wipe clean job. This is the case with my Warrior Superheat Combats.
To clean, all you have to do is brush off any loose dirt or grass off of the upper and then get a damp cloth and then wipe clean the upper. Very simple and easy and keeps the boots in good condition so no excuse not to do it after a game.
Leather Football Boots
Leather boots are a bit different to clean and will take a little bit longer to finish.
To start, clean off the mud and grass off of the boot and soleplate, this provides a good base for the process. After this you will want to get a light sponge or kitchen and using water clean the upper, getting the deeper mud out of creases in the leather and stitching.
After this you will want to get newspaper, scrunch it up and place it in the boot filling it tightly. This will help to soak up the water from cleaning the boot and also the moisture from playing.
Once you have stuffed the boots with newspaper, allow the leather to dry before applying nourishment to the upper. This will differ depending on the amount of water and the leather.
When they're fully dry it's time to apply nourishment for the upper. For this there are two things you can use. One is leather balm/cream and the other is oils such as olive oil which I personally use and prefer.
Using a cloth or kitchen roll, dab in the oil or cream and apply a thin layer onto the upper. Leave this to soak in for about 45 minutes to an hour.
I have also done the same with my Copa Mundial. You see the effects of the oil on the upper as it is black.
After the time is up and the majority of the oil/cream is soaked in, get a cloth and polish the boots. The excess oil/cream will help polish the upper, making them look not only good but will also leave them in great condition.
That’s pretty much it, using this guide will help you take care of your boots and hopefully will make your boots last longer in better condition.
