Nike Hypervenom Phantom | REVIEW | ThatCoultasGuy

After scrapping the Total 90 Laser series of boots, Nike had to come up with something good to replace it. Something I think they did well with the Hypervenom.
The boot uses Nikes X1.1 last which makes for a good fit and feel, allowing for wide footed players to also use the boot. People with average width feet will also have no problems with this boot, but thinner footed players would be more suited to something like the Nike Mercurial Vapor, with its narrow silhouette.
The upper is Nikes synthetic Nike Skin which does a great job for the type of feel they were going for with this boot.  Marketed as an agility boot, the upper creates this effect as it really moves  at one with your foot. It's soft, flexible and mimics leather almost when on the foot... so nothing to complain about here.
Touch on the ball is fantastic due to the upper being both soft and thin. It's not as thin as your F50s or Vapors but it's still a thin boot compared to most out there.
Comfort is something the boot is good at, especially when you consider the boot weighs a pretty light 195 grams! The insole included is nothing special but gets the job done. The majority of the comfort comes from the upper which doesn't pinch your foot like some boots do when bending due to the stiffness.

The soleplate on the Hypervenom is made of Glass Nylon which at first is very stiff and doesn't flex easily at first but after some break in time te material does have some give and becomes much easier to flex to the point where it is a nice performance style soleplate.
Traction in these boots is very good due to the stud pattern which is made up of conical studs. When twisting and turning, the soleplate holds up very well and gives a good amount of stability and grip. I also used these on high quality AG and they performed quite well, but if you play the majority of your games on AG, go with the AG soleplate.
Looks wise, I think the Hypervenom is a fantastic looking boot. With two colourway styles available, one being a two colour block design and the other being a one colour design there is one which will suit your style. The Nike swoosh is the opposite way to how it is positioned on the Mercurial and I think that it looks great. The off centre lacing also gives the boot a totally different vibe compared to the Mercurial which this boot is most like.
Durability the boots are hit and miss. Some people complained that the boot had poor durability and that they broke after a few wears whereas other such as myself have had the boots just under a year and they are still going strong.

Overall I rate this boot highly. The fantastic upper and great fit are two of the main features of the boot I like and the colourway just tops it off. With a new incarnation of the boot being unveiled shortly you will be able to pick up this model at steal prices come the near future.
